I feel so fortunate when I get to photograph clients from past years. I met this cute family doing their oldest daughter's (who is now 3!) newborn pictures. And now they have a new little one in their family...how time flies!

We started at the house and did some shots of their beautiful new baby girl, and then headed to a favorite park for some family pictures.

She is so pretty.

You can see their both girls in this family are adorable. We scored some fabulous lighting on these shots.

I thought they did a really fun and happy color story with their clothes.

These are the nicest people you will ever meet! Their son is absolutely darling.

One of the great things about photographing young children is the natural smiles you can get from them (though sometimes you have to work really hard to get them!).

I like this dreamy romantic look they all seem to have in their eyes...

I had such a great time photographing this couple. They were incredibly good sports and were up for anything I suggested.

I think this one's my favorite...

Do you love that little cherubim blowing them a kiss? I didn't even notice it when we were shooting!

They had to kiss continually for several minutes while I did a series of long exposures...told you they were good sports!

Aren't they awesome? I love the beautiful lighting we got as the rain clouds parted. And they should be jumping for joy...they are getting married in the Bahamas! I am sure it will be amazing. Best wishes to you both!

This little family was graduating from law school here in Cleveland, so we used the surrounding campus as our backdrop. There proved to be a lot of variety and interesting places. This little baby was sooo sweet...

I was fortunate to take these pictures of my dear friend's family over Easter weekend. Aren't the daffodils amazing? The flowers were at their peak that weekend, and we were thrilled to have clear skies.

These kids were being so adorable. None of this was scripted; they were just doing it on their own.

Happy 1st birthday Fred! (All these sweet little boys turning one!) Fred was so happy and I think his eyes are just beautiful. On the day of his shoot, the sun was shining and there was not a cloud in the sky, which provided the opportunity for both some good indoor and outdoor shots. Yeah!

I love the blue + red in this shot.

Thanks Mom and Dad for going with the flow...even after his sleeves got wet :).

Calvin is 1! If you remember this little boy, I did his 6 month photo shoot this summer. It was so fun to see how much he has changed. He is a little busy body--walking, looking at books, climbing all over, playing with toys, etc. As you can see, he is a very happy little boy.

I love this little blue rocking rocking chair. I believe it was made by Calvin's great grandfather and given to Calvin's mother when she was young. Clearly, a timeless piece!

We used all kinds of fun and personal props and I rearranged several things in their house. A big thanks for Calvin's parents for being so cooperative!

Thank you for such a wonderful fall season. I truly enjoy working with each family that I photograph. Happy Holidays to you all!

As I do most of my sessions outside, I will resume shooting families in the spring (the exception to this is newborns and individual children). There are very few indoor photography locations in Cleveland, and I prefer to use them as a backup location rather than a standard location. I feel like clients receive a greater variety of pictures have a more enjoyable shoot when we are outside. Please email me with any questions!

Remember that sweet baby from the last post? Well, this is his family! I thought they did a really nice job with their clothes...I love the yellow + gray color combination.

I am so excited to show you this newborn shoot. I was really wanting to add some new color and texture to my newborn shoots, and this little boy proved to be the perfect model. He slept like an angel almost the entire time. His mom looked beautiful and put-together as well, despite the fact that Heber was less than a week old.

I brought along this yellow + white vintage wallpaper, and wouldn't you know that Heber's mom had the perfect golden scarf to compliment it! It was meant to be...

We used this green scarf at their family shoot last year (you can see it on the website), and I thought it might be just the right pop of color and texture.

This is one of my favorites from the shoot. I love that newborn look of being in a deep and comfy sleep.

See? I told you she looked beautiful! Thanks to Heber and his mom for giving me some creative reign; I really enjoyed doing this shoot.

More twins! At this point, I really believe that the people who have twins born into their families are those that can handle it. I kept expecting these parents to be cranky and overwhelmed, but they were totally pleasant and kind and put- together. Clearly, they are the kind of people that can handle two babies at once!

And their shoot was scheduled in early November, when we had a massive snowstorm. But they still calmly went forward with the shoot.

This little boy's mother told me a little bit about his birth, and it sounds like its a miracle that he is even here. That smile on his face suggests that he is happy to be here.

It took this big brother quite a while to warm up to the camera, but I like this candid shot...

Because an indoor shoot doesn't provide quite the variety an outdoor shoot does, we took these pictures on a warm, sunny Saturday.

These parents were so good at holding two babies at once.

And he clearly loves his dad!

Once upon a time, my husband asked me what it was like to take photos of people I had never met before. I told him that you can get a real sense of what the shoot is going to be like within the first five minutes. Within the first five minutes of meeting this family, I could tell they were really nice. And I really like taking pictures of nice people!

Look at them...of course, they have an adorable child!

Doesn't this family look awesome? I think they can officially be my poster family for "What To Wear To Your Photoshoot." They chose a color scheme and everyone had their own individual outfit within that scheme. I love all the fall accessories!

And not only did their clothes look good, but they looked good doing whatever I asked. They made my job really easy!

We let the girls do whatever they wanted for a silly picture. This is one of their dancing pictures. I smile every time I look at it. There is something very Spanish bullfight about it with the red cape and the expression on her face.

It was very clear that these girls had lots of fun with their dad...

...and adored their pretty mom.

I can't remember what silly thing I asked them to do, but I think this picture is worth it!

And what's a photo shoot without a little sun in the picture?

Meet sweet Henry, an adorable 10 month old who can crawl faster than you can walk! :) We caught the very end of the fall leaves and Henry definitely enjoyed playing with them.

I love his dark eyes and sweet eyelashes. Why can't mine curl like that?

There is one week every year that is the absolute prime time to shoot the fall leaves and this was it! The beautiful castle and fall leaves make for a stunning background. This family was dressed in great fall tones and colors. It all came together wonderfully!

Isn't this little girl elegant? I think her hat is so classic.

I think she looks like a little dancer here.

I love the focus of children this age. They will not be distracted away from something new interests them.

I love the locations we used at this shoot. This family really wanted to remember the beautiful fall in Ohio. Last year, I drove by this particular spot several times and thought it was so beautiful and golden. I am excited I finally got to shoot there.

I think this little girl is just beautiful. She has beautiful porcelain-like skin...and I love those tiny skinny jeans!

Have I mentioned I love the sun in photos?

This location is my new favorite! The neutral background is very complimentary to any color scheme. Isn't that an awesome chair? The client refinished it herself and brought it along for a pop of color. Thank you! I love it.

Ovation Movement: Bitty Ballet + Princess Ballet

This fall I signed my daughter up for her first ballet class: Bitty Ballet. The owner of the company contacted me soon after to see if I would photograph a variety of classes to showcase on the website. Ovation Movement teaches classes for many ages and interests and I had a great time spending time with each class.

These beginning ballet classes were really fun and a great introduction to dance and movement. The girls practice sweet dances to fun songs, use interesting props, and have one-on-one time with their instructors. I look forward to participating in more classes!

Ovation Movement: Rock and Roll + Hip Hop and Tumble

These next two classes were full of energy and upbeat music. Both boys and girls practiced dance and tumbling. You can clearly see that the kids are having a good time!

Rock and Roll:

The lighting on this little girl was amazing. I think I took at least 10 pictures of her!

As you can see, the instructors really get down and have fun with the kids.

Hip Hop and Tumble:

This hula-hoop game inspired some hip moves and encouraged teamwork.

Ovation Movement: Seniorcize + Instructors

Seniorcize was a great class with lots of stretching and strengthening moves. I could tell there was friendship and humor shared among the participants.

And these friendly faces are the wonderful instructors who teach and assist the classes. They are fun, patient, and enjoying working with the children.

Noah + Reese

Meet Noah and Reese. An adorable set of boy/girl twins. While I have done a number of individual newborn shoots, this was my first time doing twins! It sort of felt like a rite of passage.

Newborn shoots can deceptively difficult. And so to get two babies asleep at the same time, get them posed right next to each other without waking the other baby, and considering the fact that they were 5 weeks old (which is considered an old newborn in the photographic world), well, their parents and I were thrilled!

They are both beautiful babies. I love how distinctly feminine Reese is and how Noah seems like her protective brother.

They look so comfy.

I was so excited when this family arrived at the shoot; they looked awesome! I love the fun use of red shoes and hair accessories. Everyone looked great both as an individual and in a group setting.

We started off the shoot with this little angel, who just celebrated her first birthday. She was the star of the show! Her brother and sister were wonderful to photograph as well, both very cooperative and kind children.

I love that little mischievous face.

When I was done photographing, this sweet girl just did a carefree swing off the door. Adorable!

This is my favorite shot of this handsome guy. Its a little more serious than some of his other shots, but I think it shows off his maturity and thoughtfulness.

This is my favorite family shot. That little one-year old looks like she's ready to take on the world.

Fall Inspiration: Dumpe Family

I have a whole lotta shoots that didn't get blogged last year, so I thought I would do a little "Fall Inspiration" series to both highlight the great families from last fall and to get the wheels turning for clothing and location inspiration.

Meet the Dumpe Family. It was great to photograph their family again. You may have seen them on my website. People are always referencing their shoot and even wanting to recreate some of the poses.

I think they did a great job layering for fall. The day of their family session was pretty darn cold, and rather than try to disguise that, they embraced it with scarves, vests, and hats, all of which add interest to their pictures. Enjoy!

I smile every time I look at these pictures. This beautiful family was a lot of fun to photograph. The little boy was very sweet and happy, but started to get a little tired. We decided to get him to sleep and then do some pictures in his birthday suit. However, he woke up after a quick snooze, realized there were no clothes to tie him down, and he was happy happy. This is probably the first time I have ever done "naked baby pictures" outside, but it might be the new normal.

This little guy was photographed at four days old. And as tough as it is to think of having a photoshoot the day after you come home from the hospital, it is worth it! He was very malleable and easily slept for most of the shoot.

I really like this blanket that the client had. I love working with personal and unique textiles.

This sweet little pose almost makes me want to have another baby. (almost...)

First off, I just have to say that this family was dressed beautifully. They utilized a lovely spring palette and kept everything very crisp and classic. I think it was a nice style to compliment the location as well. Well done!

Secondly, this brown-eyed boy (who is generally very happy and cheerful) was giving away smiles to no one. We all had to work extra hard to coax out a few grins. But smiling or not, those eyes shone like mirrors...

This couple is very cheery, but then can definitely pull off a more subdued look.

Have I ever mentioned I love to incorporate the sun into my pictures? I did it very frequently when I photographed weddings. For me, including the sun that instantly warms up the picture and creates this magical sense that all is well in the world.

After this shoot, my client wrote me an email to thank me for the experience of the shoot. The photoshoot itself really is an experience and meaningful memory for those involved. And I just want to thank her in return for the chance to photography her family. I always end up with a smile on my face when I am looking at your pictures. Thank you Guerrero family!

I have really enjoyed shooting newborn as of late. Shooting them can always be a little tricky, but once you get them into a deep sleep, you can do pretty much anything. I always try to do something different for each shoot to make it interesting for myself and the client. For this shoot, I brought in a vintage ruler and a Moses basket. I am happy with the dimension they added to the photos!

I photographed these sweet kids back in May. Along with photographing the three kids together, the client's goal was to get some classic headshots with a more subdued nature . "Because those are the ones you never get tired of looking at," she explained.

Greetings! This blog has been sorely neglected due to a myriad of excuses--pregnancy, a busy holiday photo season, travel, and a new baby! Below are pictures of my sweet little angel (who has since added multiple rolls and marshmallow cheeks to his little physique) at one week.

So I am not the best blogger. These are some pictures I took of my daughter a few weeks ago.

It was cold. She refused to wear a cute jean jacket I borrowed (she strongly resists all new clothes). She wanted her blanket; she wanted her sunglasses; she basically wanted to leave. :)

The balloons were the only saving grace. At any rate, here's two years.

Sage and some thoughts...

Today was the first day I have ever done an official photo shoot with my daughter. I have taken hundreds of photos of her, but this is the first time we went out for the sole purpose of taking pictures. I am so accustomed to taking pictures of her at home or on an activity that this shoot was a bit foreign to both of us. I was by myself and it was a bit much to be the mom and photographer at the same time. There was no one to interact with her, and therefore, the only thing she was interested in was eating graham crackers. I think she is eating one or holding one in every. single. picture.

I thought about how you parents must feel when your children are being photographed. You desperately want them to just be themselves, the sweet beautiful children you see and interact with every day. But since children do not have their pictures taken professionally every day, it is somewhat of a different experience for them. You as a parent are stressed because there is a limited time frame with the photographer. You want it to be successful. You want pictures that capture your children at their best.

So what do we do? Strange as it may sound, I would just encourage you to relax, and let it be what it is. The more stressed you are, the more stressed your child is. You and I will work together as a team. I do not expect your children to be perfect every moment. Sometimes it is harder than other, but they will do the right thing eventually. I will do my best to involve them and encourage them. I hope that you will interact with them and have some fun with them! Sometimes the best pictures are the ones you least expect to turn out.
